Dublin Taskforce

Last week members of our committee were pleased to meet the head of the Dublin City Centre Taskforce that was recently established to "take a holistic view of the measures required to rejuvenate Dublin City Centre, north and south." It is to report within 12 weeks of its establishment.

The Taskforce has as its goal "to make Dublin City Centre a more thriving, attractive, and safe cityscape; and a desirable location to live, work, do business and visit." Aims we fully share.

As one of the most active residents groups in the city's urban core the SGCRA has priorities that align well with those of city centre business, cultural and tourist groups, but with an additional emphasis on creating a large sustainable mixed income residential community in Dublin's city core - something that is essential in our view to a truly thriving city.

After internal consultation with our committee and membership we raised with the Taskforce issues around policing and anti-social behaviour, waste management and cleanliness in the city, the public realm, making Dublin a living city and the need to improve the governance and the empowerment of our capital. In all areas we brought specific proposals for actions.

In short Dublin needs a lived-in city centre where the streets are clean, green and safe.
